A mitten was lying in a clearing on a winter's night...
A cold rat passed by. Without missing a beat, it made it its nest. But soon a toad slithered into the shelter too, followed by an owl, a rabbit, a fox, a wild boar... and even a bear! Could the mittens resist?
This is an adaptation of a classic Ukrainian tale. The mittens, which until the bear had held out, can't resist the arrival of an ant. And in this version, it's a happy spider who takes advantage of the scraps of wool to weave herself a cozy web. The text is full of wit and rhyme. It plays on several registers of language, and is a real pleasure to read aloud.
In the heart of the forest, Antoine Guilloppé is a goldsmith. Here, he also plays with animal silhouettes and expressions. His illustrations, where black is always present, are adorned with touches of bright color that illuminate his work.
