Content : At the top of the tree is Magpie, at the bottom is Cat, and in the middle is Old Owl, who hasn't moved in a long time. When Old Owl opens his eyes, Magpie and Cat know it's time. Time to leave the tree and bring back food. But one night at dinner, Magpie and Cat wonder:
“We bring mice and worms, but you, Old Owl, what use are you?”

Magpie and Cat reproached Old Owl for never bringing anything for dinner. And Magpie and Cat left the tree, each going their separate ways. Although the big city offered them treasures and fat mice, the further Magpie and Cat strayed, the emptier they felt. They hurried back, but in the forest, it was a never-ending night. Suddenly, there was a hoot, then two lights, two lanterns in the dark. They knew that Old Owl had sung and reopened his eyes for them. Magpie and Cat found their friend and knew that they would never leave him again.
