Content : At twenty, Béryl gives up her future in Paris to save her late grandmother’s bookshop in Normandy. With the business on the brink of collapse, a brother determined to sell, and a homecoming proving harder than expected, the young woman doubts she can face it all.
Then a mysterious posthumous letter reveals that a treasure is waiting for her… if she can find her grandmother’s seven favourite pieces of jewellery, now scattered across the town.
To undertake this quest, Béryl accepts the help of Célian, her childhood enemy — provocative, unpredictable, and far more complex than she ever imagined.
As she embarks on a jewel hunt through Normandy in its autumn colours, Béryl tries to save the bookshop… and finally understand what her grandmother truly wanted to pass on to her: to stay, to leave, to love, or simply to dare to live her own story.
A cosy autumn romance by Aurélie Gerlach, set in a small Normandy town and centred around a bookshop on the brink of closure. Blending contemporary fiction with a touch of fantasy, the story explores the power of stones and crystals as Béryl comes to terms with her grief and learns to move forward. The cosy feel extends to the book’s design, with colouring-in bookmarks on the flap and printed endpapers inspired by the world of the author–illustrator duo.
About the author: Born in Paris in 1984, Aurélie Gerlach is a graduate of Sciences Po Paris. Passionate about Japan since her teenage years, she spent a year studying at Waseda University in Tokyo and has returned regularly to the Land of the Rising Sun ever since — mostly because she is hopelessly addicted to their canned iced coffee. A slightly embarrassing detail: despite all those trips, her Japanese skills still leave much to be desired…Based near Paris, Aurélie works as a journalist and writes a recurring column for Japan Lifestyle magazine, where she shares the misadventures of “a blonde in Japan.” The rest of her time, she devotes to her rock band, Babooszchka, and to painting fluorescent abstract canvases.
