As soon as he entered the Louvre, Angelo recognized her. Mona Lisa... Small, it's true, but...ah... molto bella! That velvet gaze, that mysterious smile...Was it possible? It was him she was looking at, him to whom she smiled so tenderly! Struck by lightning, Angelo seized the beautiful Florentine, leaving the whole of Paris in an uproar.
Written by Géraldine Elschner and illustrated by Ronan Badel, this album from the “Pont des arts” collection tells the (almost) totally true story of the theft of the Mona Lisa in 1911. Alas for Angelo, who fell so deeply in love with the beautiful Florentine that he stole it, the latter's gaze would never leave him, and soon became his conscience: the thief had fallen victim to the “Mona Lisa effect”!
Leonardo da Vinci's discovery: the Mona Lisa.
About the author: Géraldine Elschner has written some twenty titles for the “Pont des arts” collection, taking readers on a tour of the Louvre (“her second home”!) with Petit Noun and more recently Gilgamesh. Her interest in the story of the Mona Lisa was an obvious choice.
About the illustrator: Ronan Badel grew up in a family of doctors, and it was his sister, with a degree in textile design, who encouraged him to study drawing as a profession. What a great idea, thanks sis!
