Content : We all have a different way of living. Our customs and our lifestyles can be seen in our homes, big or small. Being a sedentary or a nomadic person does not change the fact that our place tells our story. Our « home » is above all composed of the people living in it.
Valérie Aboulker paints people. She travelled to France, Vietnam, Israel and New York to draw the portrait of a living-room, a shared room, a workshop, a kitchen, a library… This allowed her to weave links with people - often with women - because thanks to their choices of decoration, she can have a glimpse of their soul.
This book is not only a reflexion on lifestyle but also deals with Art, the representation of a place, and the choices in life. Painting home interiors or workshops is traveling at the edge of ethnography, of geography and of the history of a place.
