In the Kingdom of Sapientia, women rule and men exist only as slaves in their service. Each year, wealthy young women choose their progenitor from among the winners of a bloody gladiatorial tournament.
Adona is the daughter of the event’s chief organiser. Unwilling to face the arena’s violence, she is in no hurry to participate in the auctions — yet she must find her candidate. Becoming a mother could be the only way to protect her twin brother…
Elios is one of the tournament’s contenders. His goal? To survive at all costs and seize Adona in order to strike at her mother and overthrow this unjust matriarchal system.
For both of them, the real battle is only just beginning — and a revolution is stirring…

An anti-sexist novel with a powerful, subtle message: By overturning macho values and taking the concept to the extreme of making men slaves, the author aims to highlight gender inequality. Her characters transcend clichés and prejudices, placing freedom at the heart of human relationships, while offering a fair and nuanced view of revolutions — which rarely occur without bloodshed, even when born from pacifist ideals.

An impossible love story in a stunningly antique setting: In the first volume, the two protagonists are initially drawn toward hatred, only to see their feelings shift toward love in the second volume — all against a backdrop of gladiators, slaves, and vestal virgins.

The first complete collection from Didier Jeunesse. 18,500 copies sold was achieved by Cassandre Lambert with this second duology, released in 2023. A stunning feat for an author just beginning her career! It was more than enough to convince Didier Jeunesse to publish the first full collection of their Fiction series, giving readers who have already joined Cassandre with Atalante the chance to discover her complete body of work.

About the author:
Cassandre Lambert was born in 2000 and grew up in the Lyon countryside in a large family. While studying Law at university, she enjoys taking on sporting challenges and has been practising competitive gymnastics since the age of ten. A fan of musical theatre, Audrey Hepburn, and the novels of Pierre Bottero, she is also a bookstagrammer under the pseudonym @Cassynerverland.
She has been writing for as long as she can remember! During long sleepless nights in her teenage bedroom at the end of high school, her first novel, L’Antidote Mortel (Volumes 1 and 2), was born. It was published in 2021 in Didier Jeunesse’s Fiction collection — a story originally written “just for fun” until her mother planted a small seed: “Cassandre, you have a lot of talent… wouldn’t you like to send it to a publisher? You might have a chance.”
