The World’s Fair is about to open its doors! On display: wonders from around the globe and extraordinary inventions. For Jules, who has come to showcase his uncle Archibald’s latest quirky creation, it’s a dream come true. This year, the young orphan is certain they will make a sensation.
But his plans are thrown into chaos when he meets Matahina, a girl from a distant island who should never have been there! She is being threatened by Daghulhu, a menacing creature from the depths of the sea. With the help of his uncle and Maurice, their automaton butler, Jules sets off in pursuit of the monster, determined to save his new friend and… the capital!
Jules takes us through his extraordinary daily life, alongside his brilliant and eccentric inventor uncle, a companion robot, and a young Vahiné determined to bring justice to her country, which has suffered from exploitation. A ‘family of the heart’ that this orphan has built, united by courage and resilience.

Jean-Luc Marcastel was born in 1969 in Aurillac. A passionate reader, he devours the works of Dumas, Lovecraft and Tolkien. After teaching history and geography for several years, he turned to writing and published his first novels in 2009. He stands out in the fantasy genre by drawing inspiration from regional legends and folklore. In 2015, he won the Grand Prix de l’Imaginaire.
