Content : Sophie Germain will be a mathematician — or nothing at all! Determined to break free from the limits imposed on her because of her gender, she soon finds herself faced with a problem that seems… unsolvable!

Revolution is raging in Paris, but the future of thirteen-year-old Sophie seems already set… Sewing, marriage, a neatly ordered life? Hardly for her! Sophie prefers to roam the streets of the capital with her best friend, Antoine, disguised as a boy to avoid attention. Her true passion, the one that makes her heart race and that only Antoine knows about, is mathematics. She even has an extraordinary talent for it — and she’s willing to do anything to learn more! When the professor she admires is thrown into prison, there’s no way she’ll stand idly by. It’s time to call upon the magic of mathematics!

The fictionalised biography of one of the first female mathematicians, finally brought out of obscurity — to our greatest delight! A brilliant mathematician, Sophie Germain grew up and thrived in a world where it was difficult for women to make their mark, especially in mathematics. After We Must Save Molière (7,000 copies sold, Phare figures), Nathalie Somers, a passionate historian, seizes hold of this exceptional destiny and pays it a vibrant tribute.

About the author:
Nathalie Somers regrets not being a cat, as she would have loved to have nine lives too. Having only one at her disposal, she makes the most of it by changing direction whenever the mood strikes. After working as an engineer and a teacher, she became the author of numerous novels on a wide variety of subjects. Surrounded by rugby enthusiasts, it was only natural for her to imagine a family where the sport reigned supreme. She can be found in the Lyon area, living with her daughter (who does neither dance nor rugby), her husband (a lifelong supporter of the Irish team), and three cats (who more often perform leaps than make tackles)!
