Japanese folklore is overflowing with tales and fables featuring samurai, animals, spirits, monsters and witches. The collection “Mukashi Mukashi” (Once upon a time, in Japanese) invites you to discover these stories, which are very popular in Japan, but often unknown outside the archipelago.

The sparrow with the cut tongue: A young girl befriends a sparrow, but her jealous aunt cuts off the sparrow’s tongue.
The monkey and the turtle: The princess of the deep sea kingdom wants to eat a monkey. She sends a turtle to bring one back to the palace.
A strange fear : A group of friends discuss their fears, one of them has a strange phobia, to say the least.

About the author-illustrator:
Delphine Vaufrey has been illustrating for 17 years, working for children's publishers such as Nathan, Larousse, Milan, Hachette and Bayard.
She lived in Japan from 2010 to 2012. During these two years, she travelled the country to perfect her knowledge of Japanese culture.
