Japanese folklore is overflowing with tales and fables featuring samurai, animals, spirits, monsters and witches. The collection “Mukashi Mukashi” (Once upon a time, in Japanese) invites you to discover these stories, which are very popular in Japan, but often unknown outside the archipelago.
Contents of volume 5
- Kintarō: A young boy with an extraordinary strength grows up in the forest and makes friends with the animals.
- The jizō and the monkeys: A farmer must find a solution to chase away the monkeys that are eating his crops, but not everything will go according to plan.
- A horse for sale: A father and son travel to the city to sell their horse. But along the way, they encounter a number of obstacles.
About the author-illustrator:
Alexandre Bonnefoy has been illustrating for 17 years, working for children's publishers such as Nathan, Larousse, Milan, Hachette and Bayard.
He lived in Japan from 2010 to 2012. During these two years, he travelled the country to perfect his knowledge of Japanese culture.
