It was Christmas Eve. Outside, snow covered everything, and the fire in the hearth had long since gone out. Sleeping Beauty woke up first that night. She discovered her dear Master Belloni, the old puppeteer, trembling with fever on his bed.
- Red Riding Hood, wake up! And you too, Polari the Giant!
Wake up, all of you. We've got to help Master Belloni.

Here are all the characters from our favorite fairy tales: Sleeping Beauty, Snow White and Prince Charming, the Wolf and Little Red Riding Hood, Pinocchio and so on. They're not made of flesh and bone, but carved from wood. Yet the puppets come to life, and to save Master Belloni from a very bad flu, they sacrifice themselves for him: into the fireplace, they throw in turn their pine hand, the willow of their shoulders, their arm or leg to rekindle the fires of the hearth and of life. Christmas magic from start to finish! From the embers, Pinocchio's nose is transformed into a delicious cake that gives birth to the Yule log, and at the end of the tale, puppeteer and puppets gather around this dessert to celebrate Christmas Eve. Hubert Ben Kemoun's poetry captivates and delights us. With his snowy landscapes, the warmth of his hearth and his magnificent wooden puppets, Olivier Desvaux recreates the wonderful, festive atmosphere of Christmas Eve.
